Reach April without surprises

IRS deductions have ceilings, and most people only find out in April that they came nowhere near them. Navefi adds up what you spent in the deductible categories, compares it against each ceiling, and marks the dates of the tax year. It is an estimate from your spending, not your tax return.

  • Six deduction groups, each with its ceiling

General family expenses (35%, €250 ceiling), health (15%, €1,000), education (30%, €800), housing rent (15%, €600), care homes (25%, €403.75), and VAT borne in sectors such as restaurants, hairdressers, garages, vets, gyms and transport passes (15%, €250).

  • The headroom you still have

For every group, how much is already there and how far the ceiling still is, with months left to act instead of finding out too late.

  • What is approximate says so

Navefi counts what you spent, not the invoices sitting in e-fatura, and the two are not the same. Some categories are declared approximations: at the vet the consultation counts and the pet food does not; deductible VAT is worked out on the expense total rather than the real VAT, because the app does not hold the rate per line. Every answer carries that warning.

Navefi does not connect to the Portal das Finanças or to e-fatura. The ceilings follow the law in force and are reviewed each tax year; the housing rent one has changed repeatedly in recent budgets and should be confirmed before you count on it. Dates are verified through 2026 — beyond that they are projections, and the app says so.

Frequently asked questions

Does Navefi file my IRS return for me?

No. Filing happens on the Portal das Finanças. Navefi does not connect to that portal or to e-fatura: it organises the information so filing is quick and no deduction is left unused.

Does Navefi calculate my refund?

No, and that is a decision. A refund depends on income, tax band, household and withholdings the app does not have. What it shows is how much of your spending fits under each deduction ceiling.

Does it work for the self-employed?

Not yet. VAT obligations and deadlines for self-employed work depend on a regime — exempt under article 53 or standard, monthly or quarterly — that Navefi does not model yet.

Are the ceiling amounts up to date?

They follow the law in force and are reviewed each tax year. Always confirm on the Portal das Finanças or with your accountant before deciding.
