Your banks, read every night
Navefi connects to your accounts under PSD2, the European open banking law. You approve the connection on your own bank site, and from then on balances and transactions arrive on their own. The access is read-only: Navefi has no way to move money.

The bank list comes from the provider
Available institutions are requested from our open banking provider and shown on the connect screen. Portugal only: Navefi never looks for banks in other countries.
Your password stays at the bank
Authentication happens on the bank site or app. Navefi receives a read consent for accounts, balances and transactions, valid for 90 days. It does not include payment initiation.
One read a night, no button
At midnight an automatic job asks every connection for balances and new transactions. There is no sync button: PSD2 access has a daily request budget per account, and spending it on manual refreshes would leave the nightly read with no room. If you stay away for days, the reads slow down and catch up when you return.

Statements imported without duplicates
CSV, TXT and PDF are accepted — including a scanned PDF, read by text recognition inside your browser. A line with the same day, the same amount and a description close to something that already exists does not go in again. Submitting the same file twice does nothing, because Navefi keeps a fingerprint of the batch. The limit is 2,000 lines per import.
Transfers between your own accounts
When both accounts are connected by open banking, Navefi sees the opposite amount on the other account within three days and treats the pair as a transfer: no expense, no income. Outside that case — statements, manual entries — it proposes the pair and you confirm it.
Rules written for Portuguese descriptions
Direct debits, Multibanco withdrawals and MB Way are recognised for what they are. CGD and Revolut statements have their own readers; other banks go through a generic column reader, with manual mapping when detection fails.

The name you see on a transaction is the creditor or debtor the bank reports. On top of that runs a rule set written for Portuguese bank descriptions, which assigns the category. An MB Way credit from another person is never booked as income: it is marked as a transfer and left for review, because only you know whether it was a refund or a sale.
Frequently asked questions
Can Navefi take money out of my account?
No. The PSD2 consent we ask for covers reading accounts, balances and transactions. The code that talks to the bank only knows how to read — it holds no payment function at all.
How often does it update?
Once a night, at midnight. There is no way to force a refresh: PSD2 access is capped per day and per account, and the nightly read outranks a click.
How long does the bank authorisation last?
Ninety days, which is the term PSD2 sets. The bank list shows a warning when fourteen days or fewer remain. Once it expires you must connect the bank again — there is no renew button.
What if my bank is not on the list?
Import the statement. CSV, TXT and PDF are read and classified by the same rules, and nothing else in the app depends on having a bank connection.
