Where the money went

The question everyone asks at the end of the month, answered with no work at all. Every expense gets a category on arrival, and the month chart is ready before you ask for it. What Navefi counts is the net cost: refunds deducted, transfers between your own accounts left out, and on a split bill only your share.

  • Nineteen categories, plus your own

The built-in taxonomy has nineteen categories, with insurance, taxes and fees, pets and delivery kept separate from the rest. You can add your own and change the name, icon and colour of the existing ones. There are no subcategories — for what cuts across categories, there are tags.

  • One purchase split across several categories

The supermarket run that brings food, cleaning products and a charger can be broken into slices, each in its own category. Each slice counts against the right budget, and the expense total does not change.

  • Your share, not the whole bill

When a bill is split in a group, the expense that lands in your books is your share. The original total sits beside it as context. This is the link expense-splitting apps do not make.

  • Refunds deducted

An expense that came back to you counts at its net cost: the amount minus what you got back. If the expense is split across categories, the refund is spread across the slices in proportion.

Expenses that landed in "other" are grouped by merchant, with the count and total for each. One click assigns the category to all of them at once and teaches the rule. When the backlog is empty, the card disappears.

  • Month or year, same screen

Switch the granularity and see the same table and the same chart for twelve months. It answers whether December is expensive every year or only this one.

Pick a category once — it fixes every expense of that merchant and is remembered for future imports.

The meal card is its own account type. Its balance is credited by the employer daily allowance multiplied by Portuguese working days — Monday to Friday, national holidays excluded — and it is not counted as money you can spend on anything. What you pay with it is still a grocery expense like any other; to see it separately, filter by account.

Frequently asked questions

Can I record expenses by hand?

Yes. You can also turn an expense into a recurring one, which creates a bill or a subscription. Posting the expense automatically on the date exists, but it ships off: by default the date moves forward and the entry stays yours.

How do I fix a wrong category?

Change it on the expense itself. Navefi learns that merchant rule at that moment and applies it from then on. If the same merchant already has several expenses sitting in "other", one button fixes them all at once.

Can I export my spending?

No. There is no CSV, Excel or PDF export. The numbers live inside the app, on the analysis pages.

Does my share of a split bill count in my month?

Yes, and only your share. Paying for a dinner for five does not put five dinners in your restaurants chart.
